Wedding toast template

A wedding toast template needs one story, one thing you admire, and one wish. Fill the prompts and edit the draft until it sounds like you.

How to use this wedding toast template

  1. 01

Pick your role so the opening fits how you know the couple.

  2. 02

Write one specific memory, not a list of qualities.

  3. 03

Copy the draft, then cut anything you would not say out loud.

01

One story, one admiration, one wish

The wedding toast template on this page is a form, not a ghostwriter. Choose a role: best man, maid of honor, parent, or friend or family. Fill your name, the couple's names, how you know them, one memory, what you see in them together, and a wish. The wedding toast template assembles those fields into a speaking order and leaves any empty field as a bracket you can still see, such as [your name] or [one short story].

It will not invent the party, the proposal, or a joke. If you leave the memory blank, the wedding toast template keeps the blank in the draft so you cannot pretend the story is done. Fill it with a scene that has a place and a detail. "They are perfect for each other" is not a memory. "They brought soup when the power went out" is a memory.

Copy draft puts the text on the clipboard when the browser allows it. The wedding toast template does not email it, store it, or turn it into a designed card. Paste it into your own notes, then into the speech length calculator if you need the clock.

02

How the roles change the opening

Best man and maid of honor openings speak as someone beside one partner. Parent speaks as someone who has watched longer than the room. Friend or family is the wider net: a sibling, a cousin, a colleague who was actually invited to speak. The wedding toast template changes the assembled opening to match the role you picked. It does not change the ethics of the story. A parent role is not permission to tell a childhood embarrassment the couple asked you to skip.

Say your name even if you think everyone knows you. Half the room does not. The wedding toast template puts the name near the start for that reason. Then say how you know them in one line. A biography of your friendship belongs in a conversation later, not in the first minute.

Use both partners' names in the wish and in the glass. A wedding toast template that only praises your friend and waves at their spouse is a speech about you. The together field is where you say what you see in the pair, not a second story about yourself.

03

Length, and what to cut

A toast that runs past three minutes starts to compete with dinner. At 130 words per minute, 90 seconds is about 195 words and two minutes is about 260. The wedding toast template does not enforce that cap. After you copy the draft, paste the words you will say into the speech length calculator and delete until the clock matches the time the couple actually asked for.

Cut inside jokes that need a footnote. Cut advice that sounds like a warning. Cut a second story even if it is charming. The wedding toast template gave you one memory on purpose. If you add another in the notes afterward, remove the first or accept a longer glass.

Read the draft aloud once before the day. Bracketed leftovers mean you skipped a field. The wedding toast template is finished only when no bracket remains and you can say the memory without looking down for the punch line.

04

What not to put in the memory

Skip anything the couple has not already made public. Skip previous relationships, a roast about bodies, a story that needs someone else to be the fool, and a secret the parents should not hear at a table. The wedding toast template will happily assemble a cruel sentence if you type one. The form is not a chaperone.

Skip quotes you cannot say in your own mouth. A borrowed poem is fine when you love it and it is short. A quote you found that morning usually sounds like you found it that morning. The wedding toast template has no quote library, which is the point. Your wish should sound like you.

If you are nervous, shorten rather than add jokes. One clean story and a wish is a complete toast. The wedding toast template is not a comedy set. The room laughs harder at a true detail than at a bit you cannot land.

Practice the names. Mispronouncing a partner is the failure people remember. The wedding toast template cannot phonetically spell a name you typed wrong. Ask the couple, fix the field, and copy again.

05

Practice the glass, not the personality

Stand up with the draft on a card that contains only the beats: name, memory, together, wish, names. Do not clutch the full paragraph from the wedding toast template if reading it pulls your eyes down for a minute. The teleprompter is a last resort for a wording you must get exact, such as a blessing you were asked to say verbatim. A friend toast should survive as beats.

Record one private pass on the audio recorder. Listen for whether you thanked the room so long that the couple arrived late in the speech. The wedding toast template puts them in the body. If your spoken version opens with a minute of logistics, you added that. Cut it.

On the day, hold the glass at the end, say the names, and stop. Do not add "one more thing." The wedding toast template's last move is the wish and the toast. Another anecdote after "cheers" is a new speech.

06

Limits of a template

The wedding toast template does not know cultural orders of speakers, religious formulas, or whether your family expects a parent to speak for five minutes. Ask the couple what they want. Use the form to arrange your material inside that request. If they asked for 60 seconds, obey 60 seconds even if the draft wants to be longer.

It does not translate. The page is English. It does not generate a bilingual toast. Write the other language yourself.

It does not save drafts. Copy before you refresh. If two people are writing, send the copied text through your own message. The wedding toast template has no shared link.

The outline called Toast is the skeleton if you want prompts without the assembled paragraph: who you are, story, meaning, wish, glass. Use that when the wedding toast template's sentences do not sound like your voice, and keep the same one-story rule.

07

One memory, one role, one glass

The wedding toast template asks for a role, the names, one memory, one thing you admire, and a wish. Roles are best man, maid of honor, parent, and friend. The opening changes with the role. Empty fields stay in brackets, so the wedding toast template cannot invent a charming story you did not type. If the memory is "they are perfect," you do not have a memory yet. Replace it with a place, a task, and what you saw.

A toast people can stand through is often between about sixty seconds and three minutes. Ask the couple before you plan a long one. At 130 words per minute, ninety seconds is about 195 words and two minutes is about 260. Paste the draft into the speech length calculator if you are unsure. The wedding toast template does not time the glass for you and does not store the draft. Copy it out before you refresh.

Skip the roast, the ex, and the story that needs a disclaimer. The page will not filter a joke for you. If you would not say the line with both people in the room, delete it. Practice once with a glass in your hand so the last line is a wish and a stop, not a search for a funnier ending. Read it aloud once before the meal. If a sentence needs a preface, cut that line. End on the wish, then sit down.

Questions

Will this write the toast for me?

No. The wedding toast template arranges what you type. Empty prompts stay as blanks. The story has to be yours.

How long should it be?

Ask the couple. A common spoken range is about 60 to 180 seconds. Check the copied words in the speech length calculator at your pace. The wedding toast template does not time you by itself.

Which role should I pick?

The one that matches how you were asked to speak. The wedding toast template uses best man, maid of honor, parent, or friend or family. The role changes the opening, not the need for one true story.

Can I include a joke?

Only if you would still tell it with both partners' parents at the table. The wedding toast template will not filter it.

Does it save my draft?

No. Copy draft, then keep the text in your own notes. A refresh clears the fields.

What if I do not have a cute story?

Use a small true scene, not a list of virtues. If you truly have no scene, say how you know them, one thing you have seen them do for each other, and the wish. The wedding toast template's together field is enough when the memory would be forced.
